Spaying and neutering have many benefits

Help them live a healthier life!

Part of being a responsible pet parent is making the right choices for your dog or cat.

While no one wants to send their beloved companion in for surgery, having your furry family member spayed or neutered is one of the most loving and responsible decisions you can make for them.
In addition to preventing your pet from contributing to the already overwhelming number of unwanted pets in shelters and on the streets, these routine procedures can help them live a healthier life.

At Shepherds Vineyard Animal Hospital, we perform spaying and neutering in Apex and recommend these procedures for many of our patients. Unless you are a professional breeder or your pet has health problems that make them an unsuitable candidate for surgery, having your pet spayed or neutered is an excellent choice.

The Benefits of Spaying and Neutering

Do what is best for your pet.

Preventing unwanted litters and eliminating annoying heat cycles are the main benefits of spaying and neutering. They certainly are not the only ones, though. Having your female pet spayed lowers her risk of mammary tumors and cancer. It also eliminates the risk of uterine cancer and a potentially deadly infection known as Pyometra.

In males, neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer. Pets who are neutered are also less likely to develop prostate problems.

Spaying and neutering eliminate a pet’s desire to reproduce and curb problematic behaviors like roaming in search of a mate, yowling, howling, and spraying. Having a male pet neutered can even reduce aggression.
